metroparks.cc — Lorain County Metro Parks began in 1957. The first metro park in Lorain County was Mill Hollow, which was donated by Dorothy Bacon Demuth and is now part of the Vermilion River Reservation. The Park District has grown from that first donation to maintaining 25 parks which total over 9,000 acres of land. Staff offers over 1,000 programs to the public each year as well as over 600 programs to schools and organizations. The Park District's governing body is a three-person Board of Park Commissioners who are appointed to three year terms by the Probate Court and serve without pay. The Park District is supported by a 1.3 mill levy property tax, earned income, and a variety of sponsorships and gifts.
